For the ninth year we are supporting two Peruvian projects - two Chocolatadas - organised by two young Peruvian men.
Carlos Gibaja and his helpers bring hot chocolate, sweet sticky bread and a small gift to 100's of children living in extreme poverty in remote villages near Machu Picchu at Christmas. Groups of volunteers bring the goodies, play games with the kids, and local women make the hot chocolate! Padre Rene living 6 hours north of Cusco brings Chocolatadas to the remote villages under his care. He has no fundng from any other souces.
We also help fund Chocolatada Parties for four arts centers for street kids and youth at risk in Bolivia.
In 2012 we added a new project. We sent money to buy gifts for the 150 children under 6 who live with their fathers in the infamous San Pedro jail in La Paz. Teachers and students from the arts center took the gifts and perforned a show for the children. It was a huge success. This project has grown every year.
The Chocolatada fund raiser will be held again this year at Orgiva Tea Garden. We are very grateful to Kay and Bernie for their support, www.orgivateagarden.com. It is a wonderful setting for a fun family day out.
